About the Event


Come join us at t'Kallin Hoil Caffeh (Chatty Cafe) for a proper Yorkshire Day celebration!


This is a chance for anyone who loves the Yorkshire accent - to begin to learn some of our ancient dialect words. Born of the Celts, Angles, Saxons, Vikings etc - the Yorkshire dialect is one of the oldest in the world and is in danger of dying out.

Our Cafe format will encourage everyone attending to listen and to converse with true dialect speakers - some in their 20s, some in their 90s! This is a rare chance to sit and learn, laugh and educate thi'sen.


You'll learn lots of dialect words and phrases - many you may not have heard before, such as 'Ee wor allus at t’ last push up' and maybe some of the older ones you heard your ancestors speak - such as 'put t'wood in t'oile' and 'wor thi…
